Three Basic Steps
A head full of thick wavy hair makes it easy to create visual interest in a drawing because you can exaggerate wildly and no one knows. If you overdue do it, it still works, maybe even better. In this case, however, I didn’t exaggerate and I tried to be accurate. In any case, the drawings of this model were done in three basic steps:
Step 1: Very rough sketch done during the pose.
Step 2: Erase unnecessary lines, refine and clean up other lines, add some light shading. This is sometimes done during the next pose, and sometimes the next day in the studio.
Step 3: Add hair detail, darken and refine all shading.
Another pose, same process.

This one-step rough sketch was drawn earlier in the session.
