Smudge It

Sometimes I decide to smudge the charcoal to minimize the texture of the charcoal on rough-textured paper. I usually use a piece of tissue, paper towel, or my fingers to smudge the drawing. Not only is it fun, it also gives me something to do when a pose is not that interesting from my vantage point in the room.
